i'm leaving on a jet plane, dunno when i'll be home again
in about 9 hours time, i will be on flight SQ 227 heading to the dreadfully hot and humid realms of summer Perth. looking back at my entire summer break, it appears that the most constructive thing i did or at least in terms of self-improvement would be simply to pass my driving test. it was indeed a surreal moment, and considering i got 38 points for both my previous tests, it was by my standards at least, passing was a near-impossible feat, much less with a decent score of 12. and was perhaps a crowning moment in my 3 1/2 months hibernation.
it would have made my departure a superb one if only the dictators had won the NUS debating championship. but it wasn't to be. the incumbent champions fell to a 2-1 split against MGS -whom they ironically won in the prelims- opposing the motion THBT the government should fund transgender operation. without going into the intricasies, at least the dictators outdid themselves again. it was one of their best performances stylistically, not to say the least. while things did no go our way, the boys received due recognition for their hardwork. bryan was ranked 6th, fengyao 4th and Kenneth a whooping 2nd best speaker in the entire tournament. for the pass few weeks i've been getting a lot of referrals to my blog from people googling for 'foo feng yao' and 'andre kua'. hmm it seems that the boys are really pretty hot stuff. and for their sake, especially that of little andre, i really hope it isn't some fellow debater from some boys school googgling their names. let's hope they can transform their popularity to some real results. much as people tell me otherwise, i sincerely believe that the boys have champion pedigree in them. i really believe that debating is much more than having the gift of the gab, it's the hours of reading, endless sessions of debriefs, and enduring ridiculously uninformative adjudication briefs (quote: ' i dunno what issues occured throughout the debate, but the best speaker is undoubtedly XXXX'-- a certain Mr David G.) and by that alone, the dictators deserve to be champions in their own rite.
i'll be looking forward to hear from the dictators, for i WILL DEFINITELY fly back to watch them when they make it to the grand final, becos i truly believe in them.
perhaps another rather constructive thing i did was to sorta double my total number of female friends. meeting LMD and getting to know ruth better. while i guess i still feel a little constricted hanging around females instead of guys, it's like a totally new dimension to conversation making. thanks for showing me the neon path of enlightenment LMD! and i shall seek the green fairy thereafter haha! ruth is very interesting person to talk to, she can sound very intellectual and awfully bimbotic within the span of a single coversation. but really, much as she feels otherwise, she might well be the bravest and most resolute person i've ever known. how many top A level students do you know who have the balls to reject a scholarship in scholarly pursuit of a passionm treading down the path less travelled. sometimes i just wished i could just learn how she actually did it.
i'm really tired now, there're like so many things i really wanna blog about, if only to capture my enigmatic feeling now. i want to achieve greater things, yet there's so much that i feel that i'm leaving behind. my parents, my granny, my frens. arggg... it's back to being a living dead mugger in 9 hours time. if time is truly relative, i would hope that it speeds up a little over the course of the next 9 months.
